Guy has extensive experience of both contentious and non-contentious employment law. He acts for a broad range of national and international clients in the corporate, retail, leisure and public sectors.
Guy is qualified as a solicitor in the UK as well as in the Republic of Ireland. He holds a Masters’ Degree in employment and trade union law and has particular experience in advising clients on mergers, acquisitions and restructuring together with the effect of TUPE.
Guy advises in respect of all other forms of trade dispute and has frequently appeared as an advocate in the Employment Tribunals dealing with unfair dismissal, discrimination and other employment litigation. Guy takes a proactive approach to dispute resolution and his practice is focussed on being innovative and finding a commercial solution to disputes prior to litigation becoming necessary. Guy’s forte is in providing pragmatic advice to in-house counsel and HR professionals alike.
Guy is part of the Employment team’s training program and regularly provides bespoke training to clients. He often speaks at public seminars and has been invited to speak as an expert by external training bodies and professional associations. Guy has also contributed to various publications including Personnel Today, Estates Gazette, Financial Times and other mainstream daily newspapers. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
How do you help clients?
I deal with the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, including: strategic recruitment, redeployment and restructuring and redundancies. Employment disputes in the Tribunal and High Court; TUPE and outsourcing; equal opportunities and diversity; issues in relation to confidential information and post-termination restrictive covenants, together with the people aspect of mergers, acquisitions, disposals and company administrations, the auto-enrolment regime; Conduct of Employment Agencies and Businesses Regulations; recruitment issues with social media. Drafting, reviewing and updating employment contracts, handbooks, policies and procedures and Agency Worker Regulations.
Experience
- Advising clients over the last 12 months in relation to significant high value whistleblowing claims arising in the public sector.
- Dealing with multiple discrimination and diversity issues for doctors within NHS employment.Â
- Advising on corporate restructuring and redundancy exercises including TUPE.
- Providing strategic input and advice to resolve complex people issues during mediations and internal investigation and appeal processes.
