With over 35 years’ experience of working in the construction industry as a Structural Engineer, David has built up experience of all aspects of the profession ranging from small domestic alterations to award winning, multi-million pound projects. Working closely with clients, architects, service engineers, surveyors, contractors, fabricators and suppliers, an extensive knowledge of the requirements for integrated design and construction has been accumulated from concept stage to completion.

Highlights include being responsible for the design of the roof and mast structure for the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff (1999) and the Estádio do Algarve, Portugal 2004. Significant other projects include The Avenues Phase 3, Kuwait 2012, Burj Al Arab, Dubai 1999, Waterloo International 1994.

Experience

1. Structural design and detailing of buildings, stadia and bridges from small domestic to large scale developments in a range of fields including commercial, sports/ leisure, transport, education, health hand residential/ hotel up to £150m.
2. Experience with all traditional construction materials, including steel, reinforced/ pre-stressed concrete, timber and masonry.
3. Extensive design and detailing experience of both traditional cladding systems/ climate walls from framed and planar glass, curtainwalls in stainless steel and aluminium, to modern, lightweight composite systems including PVC/ PTFE tensile membrane structures and ETFE cushion panels.
4. Development of complex method statements for site works erection method statements, risk assessment, health and safety issues, operation/ maintenance manuals and construction supervision and contract administration.
5. Structural inspections of buildings, and complex, forensic investigations into defects and workmanship failures including reports for insurance claims, expert witness reports.
6. Production and auditing of complex 3D structural analysis, including architectural steelwork and lightweight cladding solutions utilising software such as STAAD.pro analysis software and CAD packages.
